BAM sets 2026 net zero target

Construction company BAM UK&I has set an aim of hitting net zero emissions in its operations by 2026.

The company revealed its desire to not rely on carbon offsets for its achievement – and has stated that electricity from green tariffs will not be included in quantifying its net zero efforts.

Scope 3 emissions will also be included in the company’s aim, with staff transport, water consumption and emissions from third-party energy use all being monitored and reduced.

Royal BAM Group’s aim is less ambitious, looking to cut emissions intensity by 80% by 2026.

Carbon Reduction Lead, Sarah Jolliffe, said: “We have already reduced our emissions intensity by 20% this year compared to the same period last year, mitigating the release of 7 kilotonnes of carbon.

“We have worked with the Carbon Trust on measuring scope 3 emissions and our FM business has helped pioneer Scope 3 measurement in the facilities management sector.

“The data baseline this has created and our investment in data collection and analysis is a key enabler in confidently setting this new demanding 2026 target.”
