Dorset country park gets solar makeover

Avon Heath Country Park has installed solar panels on its café roofs, classrooms and toilets.

Dorset Council has set an aim to become carbon-neutral by 2040 – and this new array is projected to save five tonnes of carbon emissions each year, producing 20,000KWh of electricity.

This is the second country park in Dorset to receive solar power, with Moors Valley having received a solar makeover last year, that has reduced its emissions by four tonnes.

A government scheme has provided the funding for the installations.

Councillor Ray Bryan said: “We know Dorset has great potential for solar energy generation. By making good use of our available roof space, like we have at Avon Heath Country Park, we can take important steps towards our net zero goal.

“The new panels will also be an excellent educational resource for the park, providing an opportunity for visitors to learn about renewable energy and the important role it has to play in our county’s future.”
