Drax trials carbon capture in Yorkshire

Drax has partnered with the University of Nottingham to trial carbon capture and storage technology at its North Yorkshire power station.

The project focuses on bioenergy, using biomass to generate renewable electricity, with excess carbon captured.

For the next two months research will ensue on whether the technology can be implemented into large-scale projects and into Drax’s wider infrastructure.

Chief Innovation Officer of Drax, Jason Shipstone, said: “Negative emissions technologies like carbon capture will play a vital role in the fight against the climate crisis, so it’s crucial we continue to innovate and develop new technologies that will support their future deployment.”
