Greggs rolls onto net zero by 2040

British bakery chain Greggs has set an aim of becoming net zero in its operations by 2035 and in its chains by 2040.

It has also committed to only using 100% renewable energy by 2025.

In its latest sustainability report, it revealed that 75% of its indirect emissions are from ingredients and packaging. This has led to it setting new science-based targets to slash Scope 3 emissions by the end of the year, which will then be verified by the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

For its operations, however, it is looking to implement the use of alternative fuels and double-decker trailers to cut carbon. Electric cooking and heating systems, as well as more energy efficient refrigeration is also being considered.
