London City Airport circles 2030 net zero target

London City Airport (LCY) has stated its desire to become the first net zero airport in London, plotting a roadmap to hit the milestone by 2030.

To achieve this, it is looking to remove gas for heating its buildings, ensure all airport vehicles become electric and incorporate a zero-waste policy with no single-use plastics on site.

LCY claims that 73% of its passengers get to the site using either public or sustainable transport, which is the highest of any London airport.

For Scope 3 emissions, it has committed to having 80% of all journeys to the airport made using sustainable transport by 2030.

LCY is also targeting zero-emission flights, with the use of sustainable aviation fuels and backing from the UK government, as it strives to push the fuel out.
