McLaren Racing towards net zero

McLaren Racing has committed to cut its own emissions by 90% by 2040.

It has joined the UN Sports for Climate Action framework and had its climate targets verified by the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

For the remaining 10% of emissions, the racing team has stated its desire to offset, adding: “It’s vital that we work together to reduce emissions now.”

McLaren is looking to collaborate with the rest of its industry to cut the environmental impact of its sport – and utilise electric racing in the future, having just joined Formula E.

“With 90% of our greenhouse gas footprint outside of our direct control, we have a responsibility to advocate for change across our industry – and we’re excited to see the positive impact that emissions-efficient race schedules, engine regulations and sustainable fuel development will have on our sport,” it concluded.
