Net zero pledge for British properties

The British Property Federation (BPF) has launched a net zero by 2050 pledge for the property sector, urging all its members to sign up.

UK real estate companies, property developers, owners and estate agents make up its membership – and if they become signatories of the pledge, would need to join the UN’s ‘Race to Zero’ campaign by June of next year.

The BPF has also announced that it will open a ‘knowledge hub’ or net zero network to help its members understand what net zero is and how the property sector can tackle the issue of carbon emissions.

Melanie Leech, BPF Chief Executive, said: “The built environment has a critical role in the UK reaching its net zero target by 2050 – currently responsible for up to 40% of emissions globally the industry needs to be at the forefront of innovation.

“Our membership is broad and diverse, with members at different stages of their journey to net zero. The net zero pledge aims to bring members together to support each other and share resources in order to effectively tackle carbon emissions before or by 2050 at the very latest.”
