Rolls-Royce turns to solar power in support of net zero goal

A new solar park that will provide green electricity for Rolls-Royce’s operations in Germany has been opened.

The Berghof solar park, located in Tengen, has a capacity of 3.7MW and will generate around four million kWh of electricity per year and save 1,300 tons of carbon emissions annually.

Rolls-Royce Power Systems has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with operators of the solar farm – solarcomplex and property owner Gerhard Weber – for an initial 10-year period.

Dr Otto Preiss, Rolls-Royce Power Systems Chief Technology Officer and COO said: “With our Net Zero at Power Systems programme, we are pursuing strict climate protection targets.

“With ambitious interim targets for 2030, we aim to be completely climate neutral by 2050 across all global sites and areas from production to supply chains to our product portfolio, i.e. in all three recognised categories Scope 1, 2 and 3.”
