Saints gunning for sustainable matchday

This weekend’s Premier League clash between Southampton and Arsenal will have a heavy focus on sustainability and climate change.

Labelled the ‘Greener Game’, Southampton Football Club has arranged for the matchday to focus on being more environmentally friendly and teaching supporters about the role they can play in making the planet a better place.

A free park and ride service will be offered to fans travelling to the game from outside the city to cut down travel emissions, free vegan food tasters will be available, as well as supporters being given a chance to make their own climate pledges on the screen inside Saint Mary’s Stadium.

future Net Zero recently interviewed the club’s Sustainability Manager Caroline Carlin on the wider action the Saints are taking to fight climate change, which can be viewed here.

On the upcoming fixture, she commented: “We know that there is a long journey to go when it comes to sustainability – but we hope that by hosting a range of different activities at the Greener Game, we can challenge people’s views on the importance of environmental sustainability and encourage our fans to think about the different ways in which we can all help protect our planet.”
