UK SMEs ‘overwhelmed’ with tackling climate change

Although they have a desire to be more sustainable, UK SMEs feel overwhelmed when it comes to tackling climate change.

That’s according to a new survey by Ecologi, revealing that 91% of small businesses feel this way – not knowing where to start.

This is put down to a lack of guidance by 42% and efficient carbon footprint data and free time by 37%.

If these issues are impacting your business, you can check out the Carbon AAA platform, which goes through accreditation, accounting and advice all in one place for SMEs.

More than 500 British SME owners were quizzed on their thoughts around sustainable action, with 83% feeling the government should do more to educate them on how to cut emissions and achieve net zero.

The majority feel overwhelmed in how they can mitigate climate change, however, the study revealed that 56% did not feel it was worth implementing policies, as they feel it’s now too late to reverse the impacts of climate change.

future Net Zero spoke with Ecologi Founder Elliot Coad in a previous interview about what the company is doing to help businesses fight climate change.

On this issue, he commented: “The smallest of changes can have a big impact, so we want to help SMEs realise this and understand the steps they can take to help the environment.

“Through collective action, individuals and businesses can have a real, tangible impact in combating climate change.”
