UKEF finances £3.6bn sustainable projects in 2021

UK Export Finance (UKEF) provided more than £3.6 billion for sustainable projects in 2021 – making it the world’s top export credit agency for sustainable action.

The funding represents a large increase on the £2.4 billion spent in 2020 and was used for clean energy, healthcare and critical infrastructure projects.

Trade & Export Finance Limited (TXF) claims that since 2019, UKEF has spent £7 billion on sustainable projects, which has meant its rise from second to top spot in the global rankings.

UKEF was awarded at TXF’s conference yesterday, specifically for its financing of a £210 million offshore wind project in Taiwan, £130 million for six hospitals in Côte D’Ivoire and £1.1 billion for a Turkish electric railway.

CEO of UKEF, Louis Taylor, said: “2021 was the year where UKEF has led the world of export finance into a more sustainable future.

“I am proud that our work in leading the way globally has been recognised today and we will continue to use the power of our finance to make the world a better, more prosperous and sustainable place.”
