Burnley give single-use plastics the boot!

Burnley Football Club has announced a new partnership to cut 150,000 single-use plastic cups from its waste each season.

Teaming up with Event Cup Solutions, the first time it will implement the cut in single-use plastics will be during tonight’s Premier League clash with Southampton, key in the outcome of Burnley’s season.

Fans will be encouraged not to throw their cups away but leave them on a shelf by the bar or place it into an allocated collection bin, where it will be washed and reused.

Event Cup Solutions have already partnered with Everton and Aston Villa to cut their plastic, with more information on Southampton’s sustainability journey available here in our latest future Net Zero insight.

♻️ We’re introducing reusable cups!

🍃 Our game against Southampton will be the first time we’ve used reusable cups at Turf Moor but this initiative will save 150,000 single use plastic cups from the Club’s waste every season and help us operate more sustainably. #UTC

Facilities Manager at the club, Matt Hargreaves, said: “Now is the time to act and it’s through initiatives such as this, that we can be more environmentally sustainable. It’s a step in the right direction as we aim to improve and minimise our environmental impact.

“We encourage supporters to help us in our mission as together we can make a positive difference”.
